Choosing banners

Grand openings, trade show tables, fundraisers and the chain-link fence at the local ball diamond: custom banners do their best work when you need to get noticed by people who aren't looking for you. It's one of the few promotional products where you may well want just one piece, and that's perfectly fine here, since there's no minimum order.

Distance should decide your design. Work out how far away the reader will be, then choose type large enough to read at that range, because a banner read from a moving car has about two seconds to make its point. Limit yourself to a name, an offer and a way to reach you. Everything else is just decoration that makes the first three harder to see.

Then consider how it goes up. Indoor and outdoor use make different demands, and the way you're hanging it matters: fence, wall, stand or ceiling. Measure the actual space before you pick a size, and don't forget that stretched artwork looks awful at this scale, so send a vector file if you have one. Your digital proof shows the layout before it's produced.
