Choosing lanyards

Lanyards spend all day at chest height, which puts your logo in front of everyone an attendee talks to. Conferences use them for sponsorship, while schools, hospitals and larger workplaces use them because staff need an ID that's easy to find. Selling that sponsor spot can even pay for the order, so it's worth considering before you settle on whose logo goes on the strap.

Width is the deciding factor for artwork. A narrow strap only has room for a short name or a tiny repeated icon, and anything fine gets hard to read at conversation distance. A wider strap gives you more to play with. Long names read sideways on a lanyard, so test yours at real size, and decide whether it should repeat or appear once on each side.

Hardware is the part people skip and regret. Think about what's hanging from the end: a badge, keys or a card with a clip. Workplaces around machinery often want a safety release, so ask if that applies to you. Count your attendees, then add a few for walk-ins and the person who loses theirs on day one.
