Choosing medallions
Ask anyone who has finished a 5K what they did with the medal, and you'll probably learn it's still hanging on a doorknob. Custom medals are made for road races, youth hockey and soccer tournaments, school track days, dance competitions and charity walks. They give every participant something to hold up for the photo, which is a big part of why people sign up again.
Decide first whether this is a finisher medal or a podium medal. Everyone gets the first kind, so you're likely ordering in bigger numbers and can look at the price table to control costs. The second is a gold, silver and bronze set, in much smaller quantities. Then there's the ribbon, which is a surprisingly large part of the look, so give some thought to its colour.
The front is where your logo or event name goes, and fine detail works best on larger sizes, so check the imprint area. If you're running an annual event, consider adding the year so that repeat participants can build a collection. Order a few more than your registration count, since late sign-ups happen. Before you set a race date, look at each product's production time.
