Choosing hats

Not every head wants a ball cap. Bucket hats, wide brims and sun hats come into their own at summer festivals, on patios, on golf courses and with outdoor crews who spend the day under a hot prairie sky. A distinctive shape also gets noticed in a crowd, which is half the point when you're buying headwear to promote something.

Decide what the hat is for and let that set the style. Sun protection calls for a brim that does some actual shading. A staff uniform at a resort or garden centre should look at home alongside everything else they wear. A novelty hat for a trade show booth only has to be funny and memorable, and it's allowed to look a bit ridiculous.

Logo placement varies more on hats than on most apparel. Some styles offer a flat front panel, others put the decoration on the band or the side, and a floppy crown won't hold a large design well. Size can be a trap, too, so look for adjustable options if you're giving them away. The product page spells out imprint area and method before you decide.
